I’ve started setting the body background/foreground (white/black) in my CSS reset.

There is the chance of duplicating yourself but at least it’s one less thing to forget.

Yeah, this one’s been one of my bugbears for years – if only because I’m forever cocking about with the colourscheme on my machines.

I don’t understand why people/companies/whatever don’t just do the incredibly simple

body { background-color:white; }

(or even use html as the selector) so something’s in there even if it’s not done anywhere else (as you say, letting the cascade do its thing)
