... but happy songs are so much better.
I'm having a bit of a dose of the blahs at the moment and I don't want to be having a dose of the blahs. I've got things to do and life's not actually that shitty, so I've no real business feeling so miserable.
So, given that I can't seem to stop myself downloading depressing music from Napster, I'm turning to you, dear reader, for help.
Suggest a happy song and help me create a "stop being so bloody miserable" playlist that will get me through the next couple of weeks (at which point I'll be far too busy to be miserable).
Eels! Novacaine for the soul.
Lightning Seeds - Marvellous
Keane - Everybody's changing
Madonna - Hung up!
i've got loooooads more, but all of this are upbeat happy CHOONS! yay!
Woodentops - Maybe it won't last (but I don't care)
Camper Van Beethoven - Pictures of Matchstick Men
Dandy Warhols - Everyday should be a holiday
Talking Heads - Slippery People
Fantastic Plastic Machine - Theme of Luxury
Anything at all by Sly and the Family Stone
'Don't Falter' my Mint Royale.
'Get Ready' by Concorde Dawn
And Pix? Just for you babe (not available ANYWHERE ELSE ON EARTH!)
d
ps- oh I forgot: All the destruct\hours are nothing but pure happiness!!!
I'm not renowned for my love of happy songs (this won't surprise anyone, will it?) so I suggest 'The Ship Song' by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. It's really getting me bopping round the kitchen sink at the moment, let me tell you.
OK, only kidding.
Seriously, I highly recommend 'Everybody Come Down' by The Delgados, and 'It's 5!' by the wonderfully-named Architecture in Helsinki.
ANYTHING by the Go! Team. BottleRocket preferred.
And I'll second the Architecture in Helsinki recommendation.
(big virtual hug on it's way too)
you won't be depressed any more after listening to this:
have fun!
philippe.
Try these for starters - not all 'happy' songs in the truest sense of the word, but they've got energy, spirit or humour. Try playing the last one at full volume without singing along to it!
'Old Red Eyes is Back' by The Beautiful South
'Sexiest Man in Jamaica' by Mint Royale
'Somebody Else's Guy' by Jocelyn Brown
So long and thanks for all the fish...
:)
Try some albums like:
Twin Cinema by The New Pornographers. Not necessarily "happy", but a great way to get up and all.
Quiet Is The New Loud and/or Riot On An Empty Street by Kings of Convenience. Simon & Garfunkel-like loungy music, highly enjoyable.
Hm. Not too much "happy" music on my shelves, unless you like Röyksopp, The Postal Service, Erlend Øye, Bright Eyes and The Decemberists. These would count as recommendations, though.
The Who - Baba O'Riley
AM180 - Grandaddy
Weezer - We Are All On Drugs
The Reindeer Section - You Are My Joy
and if you want to headlong plunge into more depressing tunes:
The Sick Anchors - Whole Again
Catatonia - Way Beyond Blue (acoustic)
Enjoy..
I Will Survive, Gloria Gaynor.
Oh yes..! Bottle Rocket by the Go Team! is an awesomg song...! How could I forget!!
also, Garbage's "Supervixen" has been known to make me swing my pants around my lounge on more than one occassion...
Hi, I've never commented before, but here are some of my suggestions for pump up your mood music...
Break My Stride - Ace of Base
I Want You To Want Me - Save Ferris
The Obvious Child - Paul Simon
Walking On Sunshine - Wham! (or Me First and the Gimme Gimmes)
Red Alert - Basement Jaxx
The Way You Make Me Feel - Michael Jackson
Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson
Two Hearts - Danny Michel
Mass Romantic - The New Pornographers
Gold To Me - Ben Harper
Take Me Anywhere - Tegan and Sara
Hey Mickey! - Toni Basil
In Too Deep - Sum 41
Wasn't Me - Shaggy
Let's Do It - Joan Jett
The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games - Of Montreal
Just Dance - Jamiroquai
Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson
Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand
Let The Cool Goddess Rust Away - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!
I hope you feel better soon.
Go for stuff by Acid Brass. Acid House tunes performed by a full brass band. Sounds insane, is insane, but always manages to make me smile...
(If you can't find any, email me and I'll upload my copies somewhere for you to *ahem* borrow)
Also, for some reason, "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave always makes me smile. As does "O'Malley's Bar". In fact, most of the Murder Ballads album. No accounting for taste, is there...
Thanks folks. It's much appreciated.
In a subtle twist of irony, I now find myself with a big pile of music to download and no internet connection at home.
Hopefully it'll be sorted soon, and I can get on with the happy music.
Pix, get out your Schism album. I was listening to mine the other day and it certainly made me smile. And just remember "Busted on Speed".
Polyphonic Spree.
_always_ works for me, also "K cera cera" by the KLF
"Fred Astaire" by James did a particularly good job for me this morning...
Anything by Kirsty macColl (tho don't think about the lyrics too hard..)in particular 'There's a man works down the chipshop swears he's Elvis'
Hmm, I'm trying to think of a good tune. I could take the John Denver "Sunshine on my shoulder makes me happy" but not everyone is cheered by the magic of sarcasm. :)
"Blame It On The Boogie" by the Jacksons, of course, "Feels Like I'm In Love" by Kelly Marie and "C30, C60, C90, Go!" by Bow Wow Wow all have to be in the playlist. Whether you'll find someone (else) who'll admit to owning these is another matter, though.
I'm not so sure about Kirsty MacColl suggestion (but then I probably listen to the lyrics too much).
(Can you see a theme here?)
friday i'm in love by The Cure
I always find Marlene Dietrich singing 'See what the boy's in the backroom will have' rather jolly, for a song about one's imminent death that is ;-)
these are all really good upbeat songs to bop ur head to
"my heart will go on" celine dion
"i dont wanna miss a thing" areosmith and
"dont let me get me" pink
