You're a postman.
You have a parcel to deliver to a house that has two doorbells.
You're not sure which doorbell to ring.
What do you do?
What do you do?
God, what a fiendish quandary for anyone to have to be in ...
Ring 'em both, and the first to answer WINS!
Do what mine does, take the package for yourself and claim you've never seen it when asked about it the next day!
sigh.
Ring both bells and say are you XXXX - name on parcel.
What else could you possibly do?
Ring neither. Don't even bother bringing the package with me, and leave a card through the door saying "you've got a package. Please come to the sorting office to pick it up. Oh, and remember to bring your passport as ID"
Simple.
If you're my postman, it doesn't matter, as you don't "do" top-floor deliveries except every 2nd Friday.
Once worked from home for a whole week. Got a bunch of mail at the end of the week with "No Access Possible" scribbled on all the previous days letters.... I was in all day!!
Call me a rebel, but I always prefer to knock.
Given that posties tend to arrive rather early, and many people value their sleep, I would ring the bottom bell (thereby only waking one person) and ask if they were the person whose name was on the package. If they weren't, I'd ask them to leave the package inside the front door so that the right person could get it when they wake up.
(Bottom bell because you've got a 50-50 chance of calling the wrong person to the door, so don't choose the person who may have to deal with flights of stairs).
Where I come from doorbells (if there's more than one) usually have name tags next to them.
So... If I'm not sure, that means I need to check who the recipient was again.
So the answer to the question to what I _do_, must be that: I Forget myself.
eh? =)
