Crontab Test

If this works, and this post shows up, then I've popped another of my geek cherries.

I used an SSH client and set up my very own little crontab, to let me autopost from MT.

A small step, perhaps, but an important one.

Of course, it would have been a lot better if they'd let you know in the manual that you have to set the permissions for the run-periodic-tasks file that the cron job runs, to 755.

Grr.

Haha, yeah. The manuals suck. I still can't get chronjobs to run on my site. I'm really digging the photos in your redesign... In the time I have been reading, I notice you are getting so good at it. I look forward to every redesign you do.

Course I don't mind you being the one and only person to nominate me for a photobloggie.

I hadn't said anything about them because I figured there's no way I'd even be a finalist, never mind win anything, especially with the new design (and consequently, new photos) only just going up.

I don't know if you can do it in MT, but in WordPress I just alter the timestamp of the post and voila, delayed posting. Great for when you're away and so on.

The cronjob thing is what you have to do with MT to get it to post stuff in the future.

It's not quite fully dynamic like WP is.

But now I've got it set up, I can set a timestamp in the future, set the post status to future and be confident that it'll show up within 15 minutes of the time I set, which is about as near as I'm going to get without overloading the server.

Ah, fairy nuff. Sounds like a right pain in the tits to organise.

I'll stick with clicking my "Alter timestamp" checkbox, and going from there.
