okay, so why is there a band of shadow in the middle of the last picture? is it some kind of 'omen' thing?

Casino Avenue Towers is almost directly below the plane in the top picture, too.
wow - the light is just right to make all the colours stand out on the stations and the Royal Albert Hall etc.
That or she's been pissing about with the saturation.
I think I can see my house from here!
That or the albedo of the buildings is much higher than the parkland? The white frontages of the buildings in the top half create a sharp edge, as well...
