... that mean so much.
Being a short list, presented in no particular order.
... with the sunday papers.
One reads the Observer, one reads the Sunday Times, one reads the Sunday Sport.
It feels like there ought to be a punchline there, but I'm too full of cold medication to get to it.
Further up the line, a group of Morris Dancers stand around in a car park, looking cold and faintly miserable, in what I'm sure was a very earnest, but ultimately uninspiring, farmer's market.
A child further up the carriage screams, intermittently. I wish it'd either go to sleep, or it and its parents get off the train.
No such luck.
Weekend engineering works are irritating when you forget about them until you're almost on the train, but having a cold will get you a seat and lots of personal space.
Nothing to see here, non-secret pal people can move on without feeling guilty.
1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I'm a bit of a fibre snob. Natural fibres are best, but a bit of acrylic is fine (like sock yarn).
2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
A clear plastic starbucks-esque frappuccino cup, a jack daniels fudge tin, and a clear pencil case
3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I've been knitting for about 18 months now and I taught myself from the internet. I'm probably intermediate now.
4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Yup. An Amazon wish list.
5. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products, etc.)
Spicy and citrusy things - cinnamon, ginger, orange, green tea, etc.
6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Yes, but I'm trying to cut back.
7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
I'm a photographer, and I bought a spinning wheel earlier this year.
8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
Pretty much anything, except Rap and R&B, and yes, it can.
9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand?
Favourite colours are berry shades. Not a huge fan of pastels or orange and yellow, otherwise, anything goes.
10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I live in a flatshare which is sadly petless.
11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
Yes, yes, yes, no.
12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Depends on my mood. Socks are very satisfying. Hats are fun. Scarves are also fun. Wristwarmers are easy. Shawls tempt me but I've not finished one yet.
13. What are you knitting right now?
A shrug, two shawls, a cardigan for my niece, assorted other things.
14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
Oh yes.
15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
I heart my addi turbos.
16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
Yes, both.
17. How old is your oldest UFO?
Probably about 7 months.
18. What is your favorite holiday?
Don't really have one.
19. Is there anything that you collect?
Dust? ;)
Yarn, fibre, books.
20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
Most things are in my wishlist. Can't think of anything I'm particularly lusting after right at this moment.
21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?
I really want to get a handle on lace and blocking it. My ambition is to spin enough lace-weight yarn to knit a shawl from.
22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
Yes. My foot is just short of 9" long and about 8.5" around.
23. When is your birthday? (mm/dd)
31 August
The Journey
by Mary Oliver (Dream Work, Grove Atlantic)
On the day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice -
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognised as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do -
determined to save
the only life you could save.
...a secret.
Tell me a lie.
Tell me the first thing that catches your eye.
Tell me a story that needs to be told.
Don't hold back, feel free to be bold.
If you worry your words may bring you shame.
Fear not, dear writer, just don't leave your name.
No need to adjust your monitor.
Yes, this site (or at least the home page of it) is now pink.
Why?
Because I felt like a change, and I read about Pink for October.
You should go read too.
